Among the options of art and live entertainment — contemporary music, modern dance visual art and thought-provoking theater, as well as classical music, opera and popular musical theater standards — you can find new and exciting things to do year-round in the Cultural District.
Where is the Cultural District?
The 14-square block District is located between the Convention Center and Stanwix Street in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, encompassing 88 retail shops, 47 dining establishments, six world-class theaters eight public parks and art installations and a dozen art galleries. With over 2000 performances held annually, the Cultural District draws over a million patrons, offering a cultural variety unmatched by many U.S. cities.
Free Events Year-round
Every quarter, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust hosts the FREE Gallery Crawls, a showcase of art and entertainment throughout the Cultural District. The increasingly popular Crawls feature music by regional bands and DJs, dance, theater and provocative visual art.
The spotlight turns on Pittsburgh’s robust Jazz scene. On Tuesday evenings at the Cabaret and Backstage Bar at Theater Square, enjoy FREE jazz performances provided through JazzLive, a Pittsburgh Cultural Trust program. During the summer, FREE JazzLive performances are held outdoors at the Agnes R. Katz Plaza. The remainder of the year, JazzLive takes place next door at the Cabaret at Theater Square and Backstage Bar.
Discover a rich variety of visual arts in the Cultural District. The District boasts several contemporary art galleries, including Wood Street Galleries, SPACE, 707-709 Penn Galleries, Future Tenant, Gallery 209/9 and Watercolors Gallery, among others. New exhibits are held year-round; all galleries are FREE and open to the public.
